She has been a qualified lawyer since 2004 and is a member of the International and Competition Sections of the New York State Bar Association, the International Bar Association, the International League for Competition Law and the Bucharest Bar. She holds an LL.M in European Union Law from the Montesquieu Bordeaux IV University, France, a SEC in Advanced Competition Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a PGDip in Economics for Competition Law from King’s College London.
Gelu has over 20 years' experience in leading legal teams in cross-border mandates. Amongst others, he has previously acted as an attorney at a Magic Circle law firm in London, as a judge with a national court in one of EU’s member states and as an equity partner with a leading independent European law firm, where he coordinated several practice groups and one of the firm’s international offices.
Throughout his practice, Gelu has been lead counsel in a large number of high value projects and has worked for an outstanding number of high profile corporations doing business in Romania as well as for many public authorities, being praised for his results-driven, business-oriented approach, negotiation skills and multi-angled strategic thinking, which have paid striking results in some of the most sensitive and/or sub-leveraged matters. Aside from his general corporate and commercial practice, Gelu holds a wide ranging expertise in mergers & acquisitions, having been involved in some of the largest deals closed in Romania, including privatizations and all forms of private dealings in the field. He equally holds extensive expertise in insolvency, tax, white-collar crime and PPP and public procurement, as well as a niche expertise in life sciences and energy matters.
He has been constantly recognised by both Chambers & Partners and The Legal 500 for his work in M&A, PPP and energy projects. He is a recipient of Lexology’s Client Choice Awards for M&A projects and has been named Best Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers International in the areas of project finance & development and energy law.

Cristina Crețu is MPR Partners’ head of data privacy and co-head of our TMT practice group in both our Bucharest and London offices. She is a seasoned technology law and data protection expert, with 20 years of experience in the TMT sector. Before joining MPR Partners, she has been a litigation counsel with a EU national telecom regulatory authority, a regulatory expert with one of Deutsche Telekom’s subsidiariesy in the EU, as well as a regulatory manager and data protection officer with one of Liberty Global’s EU subsidiaries. Such is her reputation in the TMT space that she is frequently interviewed by national TV channels and other mainstream media channels on matters related to her areas of expertise. Cristina is part of the European Data Protection Board ”Support Pool of Experts” List, a member of the Board of Directors of the British-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and of the executive management of BRCC’s technology group, as well as a Vice Chair of the American-Romanian Chamber of Commerce’s Data Protection Task Force and co-head of the firm’s task force on the Romanian National Council for Digital Transformation. In 2022 and 2023 she has been bestowed Lexology’s Client Choice Award for her Data Protection expertise. She is fluent in English and Romanian.
